SWORD & KNIFE CRAFTS

Philippine Visayan Sword Scabbard

I made this oak scabbard for my Philippine Visayan style machete sword. The scabbard this machete came with was made of vinyl. I wanted to make a traditional style scabbard for display purposes.

An electric jig saw was used to cut the shape of the scabbard for both halves. I used a dremel with a sanding attachment to create an indentation to fit the sword. The two halves of the scabbard were joined using wood glue. Once the scabbard was assembled,I used the dremel sander to round the edges. A dremel carving bit helped me to add the floral patterns.

To finish the scabbard, I added some wood stain and linseed oil. Colored hemp string was used for the binding.
